How we select the best vacuum cleaners

This page is meant to be useful from an information point of view. Our concern is in fact also to spy on the selection criteria, i.e the parameters on the basis of which we choose the best vacuum cleaners: in the paragraphs below we explain the technical characteristics that are the object of our assessment.
If you want more advice to make the choice in the best way, we also recommend reading the guide on how to choose a vacuum cleaner. You should concern about:
  • Brushes and nozzles supplied
  • Suction efficacy
To understand how a vacuum cleaner can actually aspire, we can help by consulting the European energy label, which must be provided by each production company by law. Thanks to it, even if not all models indicate the suction power, we can equally understand the validity of the product when it is at work.
  • Brush delicate floors
Both in terms of consumption and the quality of the work done, each product is evaluated on a scale from A to G, where A is the best value. The suction capacity, then, is assessed both in the work on hard floors and on carpets or rugs. It will be difficult to find a product with better values than an energy class A, a suction efficiency A on hard floors and C on carpets.
  • Suction adjustment
  • Capacity

A capacious vacuum cleaner obviously needs to be emptied less often, an operation that is usually very simple and fast, especially in the case of tank models, but which nevertheless requires the suspension of cleaning work.
Tank-type or cyclonic vacuum cleaners almost always have a lower capacity than bag-type vacuum cleaners, and almost never exceed 3 liters. We consider low-level a tank that is around 1 liter or less. The average, however, is about 1.5 liters, and from 2 liters up there is a large tank. A good tank, however, must also have an easy residue ejection system.
The bags, on the other hand, are very comfortable, even if they have obvious points of disadvantage: in particular they involve recurring costs subsequent to the purchase of the vacuum cleaner. The main advantage of the bags is the greater capacity: consider that under 3 liters we can speak of a low value, and that there are also bags that have almost 5 liters of capacity.
  • Filters
  • The dust re-emission class.
A model able to retain almost all the particles present in the air belongs to a high re-emission class (A or B): this is an important characteristic to be evaluated especially if you are yourself, or live with allergic subjects, as many of the particles that are retained are allergens.
We also positively evaluate the presence of a HEPA filter, possibly near the H14 generation, which is the most recent.
  • HEPA filter
  • Electric broom
  • Consumption and performance
The parameters are the same as we have seen for towed vacuum cleaners, and even in this case we have a label that helps us. The energy class A is the one that allows less consumption in the bill. Instead, if we talk about performance, the range is always the same: highest quality class A, lower quality letter G.
Also, remember that some electric brooms are equipped with a battery, in this case the quality is also described by the number of Volt: usually, we find 16 volts at least and 32 volts at most.
Like towed vacuum cleaners, electric brooms can also be of different types: with bags or with a tank. However, electric brooms have lowered capacities. An electric broom with bag has an average capacity of about 2 liters, while a tank is around a liter.
Once again it is the energy label that comes to us, and the evaluation is always the same. Let's talk about the class of re-entry, which to help allergy sufferers must be as close to the letter A. This indicates the ability of the electric broom to retain even the finest dust.
Here too, as far as the filters are concerned, the best are those HEPA H14.
A robot vacuum cleaner works by battery
A robot vacuum cleaner works by battery. The best batteries are lithium batteries, which recharge very quickly (up to an hour). A good battery should ideally have an autonomy of more than an hour, but from this point of view the choice also depends on the size of the house you have to clean.
The best models have tanks with a capacity of up to 600 ml, but even in this case, it is possible that you do not need to have the maximum capacity available: a product from the small tank can go very well for those who do not have a very large house.
  • Functionality
The best robot vacuum cleaners are equipped with sophisticated navigation features such as space mapping and route planning. They can also use virtual walls to delimit the treated area, and are equipped with sensors able to avoid collisions with furniture and ruinous falls from the stairs. Some are even able to recognize dust and vacuum it.
Other interesting features are the ability too independently return to the charging base when the battery is running out and the ability to be programmed to activate itself at a specific time.
Handheld vacuum cleaner
Batteries, as in the case of electric brooms, have values expressed in volts, where the minimum is usually about 2.4 V and the maximum of 10.8 V.
  • Functions and accessories
As a name suggests, a vacuum cleaner sucks small and light elements like crumbs of bread. However, there are many devices that we can suck up liquids. It is not only the versatility, but also is given by the accessory kit. In fact, we can find only one item available, which allows just the suction of food or the like, or, in the case of very complete products, also accessories for upholstery or cracks.
